The standard foam-filled headliner fabric consists of:

  • Made from a finishing fabric
  • A foam directly glued to the back of the fabric

In this configuration, the foam is in direct contact with the headliner support during bonding. This provides good support, but requires precise installation because:

  • The fabric marks more easily
  • Repositioning options are limited once the glue has set. Once the glue has set, the possibilities for repositioning are limited.

The foam-lined headliner fabric with a hornbeam mesh has an additional intermediate layer:

  • The finishing fabric
  • The foam
  • A heat-sealed, foam-bonded, charming veil (net)

This veil plays a very important role during the application:

  • It prevents the foam from being in direct contact with the support
  • It greatly reduces marks during gluing
  • It allows for easier readjustment in case of error
  • It offers improved working comfort, especially on large surfaces or complex shapes.

This is a particularly popular option among automotive upholstery professionals, but also among individuals wanting a more secure installation.

In summary:

  • Standard foam: more direct application, requires precision
  • Foam with charmeuse veil: fewer marks, readjustment possible, more comfortable application

The choice depends mainly on the level of experience and the desired ease of installation.

The fabrics we offer are professional-grade, specifically designed for automotive upholstery. However, each vehicle may have variations depending on the model, year, manufacturer, and color. Therefore, it's possible for the original fabric to differ from one vehicle to another, even within the same model.

For our kits, we select the most common configurations, but if in doubt, we strongly recommend requesting samples to validate the color and material before ordering.

To best guide you, we need:

  • A complete postal address for sending samples
  • Photos of the roof lining:

- Close-up view
- Overview
- View from the front of the headliner, at the level of the front dome light (vehicle light)

  • The color as determined by the customer
  • The type of material (velvet fabric, honeycomb, etc.)

This process is a little longer but ensures the best possible result and avoids any mistakes in choice if you want to be as close as possible to the original.

The three types of adhesives we offer are professional-grade, high-temperature resistant, and perfectly suited for vehicle interiors (headliners, upholstery, trim). The main difference lies in the application method and ease of use, as each adhesive requires a double-bonding technique.

Gun glue
The spray adhesive is applied using:

  • From a compressor
  • Using a paint gun with a 2 mm nozzle (size required due to the strength and thickness of the glue)

It allows for an application:

  • Homogeneous
  • Fast
  • Widely used in professional settings

However, it requires suitable equipment and a minimum of experience.

Brush-on adhesive
This glue is easily applied with a brush, without any special equipment. However, great care must be taken regarding the quantity applied, because:

  • The gluing is done using a double gluing method (backing + fabric).
  • On the fabric part, an excess of glue can leave marks or seep through.

It is suitable for careful users, but requires more attention to application.

Spray adhesive
Spray adhesive is an excellent solution, highly valued for:

  • Its strong covering power
  • Its homogeneous distribution
  • The immediate visibility of the glued areas

It offers greater ease of use than brush-on glue, while ensuring effective and clean bonding.

This is often the best compromise between performance and ease of installation.

In summary:

  • Gun adhesive: professional application, quick, requires equipment
  • Applying glue with a brush: simple, but requires precision and vigilance.
  • Spray adhesive: easy, even, very comfortable to use

The choice depends on your equipment, your experience, and your work habits. The client, of course, remains in control of their choice.

Installing a headliner or any upholstery fabric requires some essential preparation and precautions to guarantee a durable and clean result.

1. Preparing the support

  • Remove old foam and residue: use a stiff-bristled brush to remove the old foam, then vacuum thoroughly.
  • Deep cleaning: Lightly dampen a cloth with acetone to remove traces of glue and dirt. ⚠ Caution: Never apply acetone directly to the surface, as this can damage it or even cause warping on some models.

2. Installation conditions

  • Minimum temperature: 15°C, in a dry and heated environment, or outdoors in mild weather.
  • Drying time before gluing: 2 to 15 minutes to the touch, depending on the glue and the temperature.
  • For final repositioning: wait at least 6 hours before cutting for optimal hold, even though our contact adhesives allow for rapid bonding.

3. Applying the glue

  • Technique: smooth with your hand flat, applying even pressure.
  • Avoid applying with your fingertips.
  • Always work from the inside out.
  • Types of glue: all our glues are suitable and of professional quality; the difference lies mainly in the application (spray, brush, gun).

4. Additional advice

  • Our customers can watch our how-to videos on our YouTube channel, where we demonstrate: ○ disassembly and reassembly of numerous vehicles
  • Tips and tricks for installation, applying glue and smoothing

In summary: for a successful installation, prepare the surface well, work in good conditions, apply the glue with the correct technique, and feel free to consult our videos to view all the steps.

The main difference lies in the presentation, preparation, and price.

1. Roll fabric

  • Arrives rolled up on a roll, without creases or marks.
  • It can be used immediately; no preparation is necessary.
  • More expensive: the roll contains long dimensions of fabric and may exceed the standard size, which justifies the price.

2. Fabric made of folded cardboard

  • Arrives folded in a cardboard box, which may create creases upon receipt.
  • To remove them: Roll the fabric up and wait approximately 24 hours, or / Use an iron at a suitable temperature to remove the creases immediately.
  • More economical than a roll, convenient for those who can take some time to prepare the fabric.

In summary : the roll allows for immediate use and a perfect finish but is more expensive due to its length and non-standard dimensions. Folded cardboard is cheaper but requires a little preparation time to remove creases.
